Each year, we practice what to do in school when there is an earthquake. Though we are working and studying from home this year, we can and should still practice how to be safe when the earth shakes!
We encourage you to conduct an earthquake drill at home so that everybody in the family knows exactly how they should respond during an earthquake emergency. Some questions you can consider as you plan your drill are:
How will you incorporate COVID-19 health and safety guidelines into your activity?
How can you make your home safer?
Where can you take cover in your house as part of the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” steps?
What essential items will you need to grab on your way out?
The Great ShakeOut website provides a guide for conducting earthquake drills. It has a number of resources, including checklists, presentations, and other materials that provide guidance. Here is the Disaster Checklist for parents and families.
Please take some time to prepare your family for this emergency.
