Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Alex Smedile

I grew up in a small town in Washington State called Omak. A lifelong interest in linguistics, archeology, and the social sciences led me to a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology. After graduating, I took an English teaching job in South Korea for a six month stint. I discovered my passion for elementary education and ended up staying for five years! My wife and I moved to the Bay Area in 2016 and we feel fortunate and proud to call California our home. Before coming to Meyerholz, I worked for a project-based civics and social studies learning center in Los Altos called Kidizens and earned my Masters in Elementary Education from San Jose State. I love skiing/snowboarding, hiking, trail running, backpacking, and open water swimming. I have a high energy and passionate teaching style and I believe in motivating students by modeling a love for learning and building on their strengths.
